Our Story

The First

Gatherings

On September 24, 1972, 111 disciples gathered at Kennedy Elementary School in Mankato, MN to worship together for the first time. Those disciples selected the name Hosanna Lutheran Church and shortly thereafter 28 families became charter members of Hosanna. Pastor Bruce Zagel served as the first pastor of Hosanna Lutheran Church, and he and his family tended to Hosanna until 1977.

Breaking

Ground

In June, 1974, Hosanna Lutheran Church became a voting member of the Minnesota South District of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. One week later, ground was broken for a church building. Due to the increasing number of Hosanna disciples, Hosanna added on to the facilities in 1992 and 1998. A larger sanctuary was added in 2010.

Second

Church Location

In September of 2012, Hosanna added a second site--Highland. Located in the heart of the MSU campus in Mankato, Hosanna Highland continues the ministry the Campus Lutheran Chapel began.

God continues to broaden Hosanna’s reach and influence in Mankato and surrounding areas. It is our desire to partner with other life-giving churches to see our city, region and beyond reached with the Good News of Jesus.
